Information for New Board Members
Gulfcoast Legal Services (GLS) is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1978, to provide free high quality legal services and aggressive legal advocacy to income eligible and vulnerable residents of the greater Tampa Bay area.
GLS routinely reviews applications for new Board members. Our goals are to have a diverse Board of Directors, 60% of whom are practicing attorneys. We accept applications from individuals in three primary counties where GLS serves: Sarasota, Manatee, and Pinellas. Directors may be practicing attorneys, retired, or working in another substantive area. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals who have experience leading fundraising initiatives, and encourage applications from people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, veterans, and former clients.
We are entering a challenging yet exciting time, as economic pressures on our clients increase and the demand for our legal services rise. This work has never been more important than it is now.
In order to provide continuity, our board members serve staggered three year terms. Currently attendance is remote. Eventually we will get back to having some in-person meetings. Each board member is expected to actively participate in meetings, serve on one Board committee, act as an advocate for GLS, and help GLS identify friends and donors.
